Alexia Platenburg, Founder & Owner of Wunder Luster Travel Agency #GoGetterSpotlight

Updated: Dec 8, 2019

Building a brand that is both your passion and paycheck is a dream many aspire to live and make a reality. If we’re being honest, it can be a challenge to live your best life while building a life you don’t need a break from. However, that is a reality for Alexia Platenburg, owner and founder of Wunder Luster Travel Agency.

The Wunder Luster Travel Agency is a full-service travel company that turns your travel bucket list into a reality. Alexia has traveled to some of the most breathtakingly, beautiful countries throughout the world and cities right here in the U.S.

We had an open and honest conversation about what it means to be a #GoGetter and her journey as an entrepreneur.

What is your definition of a #GoGetter? A go-getter is a person who never sits back and waits for blessings, opportunities, or options to come to them. They create the life they want by any means necessary. A true understanding of sacrifice and dedication, a go-getter is the person that goes beyond getting things done.

Introduce/Describe the Wunder Luster Travel Agency and what it means to you. The Wunder Luster Travel Agency is a full-service boutique travel company specializing in affordable, luxury travel for the professional millennial. Whether it be planning a girls trip, destination wedding, or simply looking for your next adventure, we turn travel into a passion everyone can afford.

What is the inspiration behind starting Wunder Luster Travel Agency?

As a solo traveler, I understand first-hand the power of traveling. When I am abroad, no matter what I may experience or how many obstacles I must overcome, traveling feeds my soul, expands my mind, and grows me mentally, physically, and emotionally. It is incredibly powerful to simultaneously feel like the largest and smallest person in the world.

What would you say is the hardest part about getting started? I believe Jacqueline Baker said it best at the Summit 21 conference, “It is easy to start something and harder to stick with it.” After the conference, I was a registered business within two weeks and up and running two weeks before scheduled. The easy past. The hard part is staying with that same motivation and commitment to grow my business where it needs to be.

What advice would you give to someone who is afraid to take

the next step and go after their dreams? You are capable of what you think you are. I have learned that the power to create and grow something of my own is truly in my control. With God’s blessing, guidance, and a mustard seed, anything is possible. I fail forward everyday. One day you will realize that choosing not to follow your dreams will be infinitely worse than failing at them.

What does balance look like for you? What’s balance? Honestly I do not know because I have not yet achieved it. When I take time for my mental and physical health, I guilt trip myself for it. When I work myself into the ground, I am frustrated when I become depressed or overwhelmed. I try to tell myself that balance is a milestone I will achieve when I reach a certain point. Until then, I just have to stay focused.

What is your biggest dream for Wunder Luster Travel Agency My ultimate goal for my brand is to be the leading name amongst the travel industry in creating a space for black travelers. From representation across continents, to accessibility to safe spaces all over the world. In developing that community, my goal is to provide resources, opportunities, and guidance for more people to travel. To become our own personal representation in every corner of the world.

What is one setback you've experienced and how did you overcome it?

The one setback I have experienced is time management. Time management can kill your business no matter the industry you are in. As a tool to manage my growth, I’ve created physical and digital to-do lists as well as setting weekly reminders of priority tasks. I have also come to accept that despite what Beyoncé and Diddy want me to believe, 24-hours in a day IS NOT ENOUGH time; and that is okay.

What keeps you motivated to keep going?

I genuinely can’t imagine giving up my freedom, peace of mind, and the dreams that have grown from my business to fail. The opportunities I can create for myself are so vast I refuse to go back to being a worker bee on someone’s freedom.

Is there any additional information and/or comments you would like to include for our readers?

I encourage everyone to bet on themselves and trust your own capabilities. You are more powerful and capable than you give yourself credit for.

Alexia had the courage to "jump" into her passion and do what she loves. She took her dreams and turned them into a reality. She didn't make excuses, she made it happen. Being a #GoGetter isn't about always having it all figured it out or being perfect, it's about living your dream your way and being authentic to who you are.

You have two options, you can say one day or day one, the choice is yours. Be a #GoGetter, what do you have to lose?

Be sure to book you next trip with Alexia at www.wunderluster.com and take the stress out of traveling.
